Real English Country Chairs

Restoration Projects

This chair was brought to me recently for repair of the seat board. Inspection revealed that this was at least the third time it had broken in the same place.

I drilled the seat at its thickest points and inserted two 8mm by 125mm rods to support the joint and then glued and cramped the fracture together. Whilst under cramping pressure I cut three butterfly wedge slots in the underside of the seat then glued fitted the butterfly wedges into the slots.

A clean up of the glue line on the top was necessary to remove the tiny splinters resulting from the fracture,

it was the stained and repolished.
